I see your point and it works if what you want from the chatbot is utility. It wouldn't work to tackle loneliness, for instance, as Tatiana said. But I agree with you, Phil, that bots don't need to be imperfect the way humans are, and in that sense, they'll eventually be much more useful for many tasks.

If connecting with random human strangers on the Internet works at combating loneliness today, why wouldn't connecting with bots also be willfully engaged by many tomorrow? Probably not by us today, but by those coming generations born in to world where talking with bots is considered normal.
