I doubt everything. My intuition and knowledge puts me in the "they're honest" camp.

Intuition can’t argue against.Knowledge? This perhaps is where a bit more will demonstrate intentions do not match the behavior.

I've got a slightly different take (though I'm mostly aligned on your ending scenario). But I don't think it's a kayfabe, especially now that Trump's clumsy export ban is in place.

I think the power/control dynamics are in play, but I'm less sure about whether Anthropic is one of the preferred participants.

Trust is hard to earn and easy to lose, or you know, never acquire in the first place. And so, to Mistral! I've been impressed with mistral-medium-3-5--it's my go-to in aider--plus their vibe cli is open source.

A genuine mission that just so happens to be strong marketing on Anthropic 's part.

And a way for the Trump government to manipulate markets/contracts/personal enrichment.
